Young Pahang weightlifters smash SUKMA records
Start them young they say, and a young Pahang weightlifter has got herself into the record books in the SUKMA weightlifting competition at the Malaysian National Games in Sarawak recently.
21-year-old Fatin Amira Nasir not only won two gold medals in the Snatch and Clean and Jerk, but also shattered two SUKMA records in the women’s 69kg category. Fatin cleared 75kg in the Snatch to erase the 74kg mark set by Nur Khasida Halim in Pahang in 2012, followed by a 95kg lift to smash Khairani Malik’s 92kg record set in Malacca in 2010 in the Clean and Jerk.
“My target here was just to win the two gold medals. Breaking the two Games records are bonuses. This is my third and final appearance in SUKMA. I was determined to bow out with at least one gold medal as my previous best was winning a silver in the snatch in Perlis (2014),” said Fatin.
Team Pahang led by coach Zakaria Usop, seemed to be on a roll with teammates Mohamad Fazrul Azrie taking three national and two SUKMA records in the men’s 85kg category, while Khairul Anuar Mohamad won the snatch and clean and jerk in the men’s 94kg category to take the east coast state’s weightlifting tally to seven golds.
