Malaysia’s Sanjay Manimaran Dominates Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 10KM Run

The second day of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2023 witnessed an electrifying battle in the 10km category, with nearly 17,000 runners creating a spectacle on the vibrant streets of Singapore. The focal point of this mass participation running event was undoubtedly the fiercely contested 10km run, concluding at the iconic National Stadium.

In an exhilarating display of athleticism, Malaysia’s Sanjay Manimaran emerged victorious, clocking an impressive time of 32 minutes 35 seconds. The tension in the air was palpable as Sanjay crossed the finish line, narrowly edging out Vlad Ixel from Australia, who finished just two seconds later at 32 minutes 37 seconds. Meanwhile, Singapore’s Sharon Tan clinched the top spot in the Women’s 10km race with a remarkable time of 40 minutes 13 seconds.

Sharon Tan, who also represented Singapore in the SEA Games 2023 marathon event, expressed her elation at securing victory in the SCSM. She shared, “Winning this race at the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon is an incredible feeling. For me, it’s all about the climb and enjoying the running journey, personal best or not, fast or slow. The event was truly remarkable, and the National Stadium finish was a great touch.”

The 10km participants were flagged off by distinguished guests, including Mr Toh Boon Yi, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Sport Singapore; Mr William Ang, Chief Technology & Operations Officer, Singapore and ASEAN Markets for Standard Chartered Bank; Mr Ameet Nivsarkar, Vice President and Country Head of TCS Singapore; and Ms Jennifer See, Managing Director of 100PLUS. This marked the commencement of a race that showcased a remarkable blend of sportsmanship and determination.

While the 10km category stole the spotlight, other noteworthy performances included Indonesia’s Rahmad Setiabudi claiming victory in the Men’s 5km race with a time of 17 minutes 21 seconds, and Singapore’s Huang Xin Rong securing the top spot in the Women’s 5km category with a time of 21 minutes 15 seconds.

With over 44,000 runners from around the world, including 8,000 international participants from more than 70 countries, the SCSM2023 continues to captivate audiences. The Marathon and Half Marathon categories are set to commence tomorrow at 4.30 am, promising an exhilarating conclusion to this action-packed weekend.
