Leading the Heavy Runner Community: Mohammad Irwan Shaffiee’s Bold Debut at Bukit Kiara Ultra Challenge 2026

For many, the lush, technical terrain of Bukit Kiara is a familiar training ground. But for Mohammad Irwan Shaffiee, better known to his followers as Bob Irwan, the Bukit Kiara Ultra Challenge (BKUC) 2026 represents a leap into the complete unknown. A leader in the northern running scene, Bob is heading to the heart of Kuala Lumpur to tackle the 25 KM category—a daunting assignment featuring 900 meters of elevation gain spread across three relentless loops.

Despite being a self-described newcomer to the trail scene, Bob’s motivation carries significant weight. As the leader of the Heavy Runner Community (HRC) in Kedah, he oversees a diverse group of over 200 members. For him, BKUC is not just a personal test; it is a leadership responsibility.

“Actually, it’s considered too new for me in trail running, and it’s my third trail event,” Bob explains. “Due to some of my community members starting to explore the trail scene, it makes me as a leader want to explore too so that I can continuously encourage them.”

The Burden of the Lens
As an active social media personality, Bob faces a unique dual-challenge on race day: the physical battle against the clock and the creative demand of content creation. For a “slow runner” focused on beating the Cut-Off Time (COT), every minute spent filming is a minute risked.

Yet, Bob views the camera as a tool for advocacy rather than a distraction. “I need to record a content of the event to show to my followers about my journey. I always think for every moment I share, at least it will benefit for some who really need encouragement or an example,” he says.

Blind Ambition: Facing the Kiara Loops
Interestingly, Bob will be stepping onto the Bukit Kiara trails for the very first time on race day. Having never visited the site, he has spent his preparation studying elevation charts and looping formats on paper rather than on the dirt.

“Honestly, I don’t have any view of Bukit Kiara itself. Never been there makes me more interested,” Bob admits. However, he is pragmatic about the difficulty of the 8.5 KM loop. Between the demands of work and limited training windows, he leans on the philosophy of muscular preparation. “Just hard training will make you success in BKUC. If your muscle able to stand for the long endurance, it should be no problem to enjoy all the three loops. When the body is in good condition, your mental will be enjoy too.”

Inspiring the “Heavy Runner”
The ultimate goal for Bob at BKUC 2026 is simple yet profound: to finish within the COT. For him, a successful finish is the fuel he needs to continue his journey into the ultra-marathon world, and more importantly, a visual proof-of-concept for his community.

“I really want to complete it within COT because I myself need motivation from the finishing to continue my journey in future events,” Bob notes. “The video needs to share how people overweight like me able to complete the Bukit Kiara route.”

By crossing the finish line at one of KL’s most demanding urban trail events, Bob hopes to shatter the ceiling for “heavy runners” everywhere, proving that grit is not measured by the scale, but by the willingness to keep moving through the third loop.
