Taman Negara Gunung Ledang, 20 August 2023 – Against the serene backdrop of Taman Negara Gunung Ledang, an extraordinary tale of human endurance and triumph unfolded during the inaugural Ledang Climbathon.
Held in conjunction with the grand opening of Kailas Ledang and marking the reopening of Gunung Ledang two weeks prior, this event carried profound significance. From 7:00 AM, participants conquered the demanding elevation of 1,506 metres in the 14km category and embraced the 7km route.
National athletes Tahira Najmunisaa Muhammad Zaid and Muhaizar bin Mohamad stood out as inspiring symbols of determination and achievement, etching their names into the narrative of this historic event.
Tahira Najmunisaa Muhammad Zaid: A Trailblazer’s Triumph
Tahira Najmunisaa Muhammad Zaid emerged as the Female Champion in both the Women’s Open and Malaysian Women’s categories, embodying resilience and dedication. Recording a time of 2 hours, 46 minutes, and 12 seconds, Tahira’s performance embodied her unyielding commitment and unwavering spirit.
Reflecting on her accomplishment, Tahira shared, “The inaugural Ledang Climbathon was more than a race; it was a journey of self-discovery against the breathtaking backdrop of nature’s grandeur. The challenging elevation tested my limits, yet the camaraderie and awe-inspiring scenery fueled my determination. Muhaizar bin Mohamad: Pioneering Success with Grit
Muhaizar bin Mohamad once again etched his name in the annals of national athletics, securing the First Runner-Up position in the Men’s Open category and earning the Champion title in the Malaysian Men’s category. Clocking a time of 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 42 seconds, Muhaizar’s performance reflected years of intensive training and a resolute spirit.
“In the dynamic world of competitive running, every race contributes to our growth. The inaugural Ledang Climbathon posed unique challenges, merging trail running expertise with the mental fortitude needed for uphill ascents. My victory signifies not just personal achievement, but the triumph of pushing limits,” Muhaizar humbly conveyed, encapsulating his remarkable accomplishment.

Celebrating Accomplishment Amidst Nature’s Splendor
The inaugural Ledang Climbathon 2023 saw the participation of 257 athletes in the 14km category and 64 participants in the 7km category. Notably, Nurul Juliana Shakira Binti Abdul Halim secured the runner-up position among the female participants in the 14km category with a time of 2 hours, 56 minutes, and 55 seconds. Ng Song Hiang clinched the third spot with a timing of 2 hours, 56 minutes, and 56 seconds.
In the fiercely competitive Men’s category, Mahadev Rijal from Nepal stood as the victor with an impressive chip time of 1 hour, 59 minutes, and 1 second, recorded a stunning 12 minutes and 41 seconds ahead of Muhaizar, setting a remarkable benchmark for future editions of the Ledang Climbathon. Yusof Bin Abdul Manan secured the third position, finishing the race in 2 hours, 11 minutes, and 45 seconds.
