Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah, will welcome thousands of endurance athletes as it hosts the 10th edition of IRONMAN Malaysia from October 30 to November 2, 2025.
Featuring a 3.8 km swim, 180 km bike ride, and 42.2 km marathon run under the island’s tropical heat and humidity, IRONMAN Malaysia stands as one of the most demanding full-distance triathlons on the global circuit.
Adding to the excitement, the IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi, featuring half the full IRONMAN distance, will also return for its seventh consecutive edition since being introduced in 2017, extending the experience to both elite and aspiring triathletes.
Now entering its milestone year under World Endurance Malaysia, the event has grown into one of Asia’s most celebrated long-distance triathlons.
This year’s 10th edition of IRONMAN Malaysia has drawn a confirmed field of 1,500 athletes. The field features athletes from 56 countries, showcasing Langkawi’s continued global appeal as both a race and travel destination.
Malaysia once again boasts strong home representation, with 500 athletes competing across both the full IRONMAN Malaysia and IRONMAN 70.3 Langkawi. In total, the race weekend will unite 1,500 athletes, 5,000 spectators, and 1,250 volunteers, highlighting the event’s impressive scale and festive atmosphere.

Over the years, IRONMAN Malaysia has witnessed outstanding performances from both international and Malaysian athletes.
The course record stands at 8:10:24, set by Brazil’s Fernando Toldi in 2024, while Australia’s Regan Hollioake clocked the fastest women’s time of 9:13:08 the same year. Among locals, Fawwaz Fauzi (10:47:42) and Pow Chia Ling (11:33:41) currently hold the Malaysian best men’s and women’s times respectively, reflecting the growing strength and competitiveness of the local triathlon community.
Beyond the race itself, IRONMAN Malaysia has played a pivotal role in nurturing Malaysia’s triathlon scene, inspiring first-timers, giving homegrown athletes the opportunity to compete on Malaysian soil, and contributing to the sport’s steady growth nationwide.
Many local triathletes trace their beginnings to Langkawi, where they first experienced the challenge of IRONMAN before progressing to international competition.
Set against the backdrop of a tropical paradise, the race takes athletes on a cultural journey through Langkawi’s diverse landscapes, from coastal roads and charming villages to lush forests.
The experience culminates at Cenang Beach, where the competition transitions into a well-earned “Race’Cation.”
Along the way, athletes are greeted by the warmth and hospitality of the Langkawi community, turning the event into a celebration that extends beyond sport.
Over the past decade, IRONMAN Malaysia has consistently delivered a strong economic boost to Langkawi.

Since 2014, the event has generated an estimated RM 248 million in total economic impact, peaking at nearly RM 38 million in 2019 before rebounding post-pandemic with RM 23.8 million recorded last year.
The 10th edition is expected to build on that momentum, underscoring Langkawi’s growing reputation as one of the region’s premier endurance-sport destinations.
“This 10th edition is more than just a race; it marks a decade of community building, global exposure, and shared endurance,” said CG Lim, IRONMAN Asia Regional Director.
“Over the years, IRONMAN Malaysia has grown into more than a destination race. It’s a dream-chasing platform for Malaysians, many of whom have earned their coveted slots to the IRONMAN World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, regarded as the pinnacle of long-distance triathlon worldwide. To qualify for Kona through a home event in Langkawi is an incredible achievement that symbolises how far the local triathlon community has progressed.”
“As we celebrate this milestone year, we’re not just honouring the athletes who’ve crossed the finish line; we’re celebrating the spirit of Langkawi, the dedication of our volunteers, and the unwavering support of the community that has made IRONMAN Malaysia what it is today.”
IRONMAN Malaysia continues to embody the spirit of determination, resilience, and community that defines the sport, and its 10th edition promises to be the most meaningful yet.
