A Champion’s Triumph: Mohd Fazlie Rosli Conquers the 162km UiTM Ultra

When Mohd Fazlie Rosli crossed the finish line of the 162km UiTM Ultra, there was no doubt left—this was the day he claimed victory, not just over the race, but over his own limits. In a race where every step challenged his endurance and every hill tested his resolve, Fazlie emerged as the champion of the Men’s Open category, clocking a jaw-dropping 19 hours, 34 minutes, and 42 seconds—a time that defied his own expectations.

The journey to this moment was anything but easy. As one of Malaysia’s top ultra-distance runners, Fazlie had faced his share of setbacks and injuries in the past year. After several disappointing results and struggles with overuse injuries, this victory was about more than just crossing the finish line—it was a full-circle redemption. And Fazlie knew it.

“I can’t believe it. I’m still trying to process everything,” he said. “To achieve this after everything I’ve been through feels surreal. It’s a dream come true.”

What makes Fazlie’s win even more incredible is that no one—including himself—expected such a performance. With a personal best for 100 miles of 22 hours and 34 minutes, he had set his sights on finishing the 162km race in under 22 hours. But as he pushed through the punishing course, the idea of breaking the 20-hour barrier started to feel within reach. Little did he know, he was on the verge of rewriting the script of his own race.

The race itself was no walk in the park. With three major hills—Bukit Tonggek, Bukit Canseleri, and Bukit Seroja—looming large along the route, it was a battle of strength and willpower. But Fazlie, a seasoned trail runner, had the experience to tackle the elevations head-on. “The hills were the hardest part,” he admitted, “but I’ve faced worse. I’ve trained for this. But mentally, that’s where the race really starts.”

And it’s mental toughness that made all the difference. After 81.2km, Fazlie found himself battling sharp pain in his left knee from an old injury. His right knee was barely holding up, and fatigue was setting in. He reached a point where he almost gave up. “I was ready to DNF. But then I thought of my supporters, my sponsors, and all the people who believed in me. I didn’t want to disappoint them, so I pushed through.”

What followed was nothing short of extraordinary. Despite the physical pain and the mental fatigue, Fazlie found an inner strength that propelled him forward. He rallied with each step, each loop, refusing to give in. The last 7 loops were a full-on sprint to the finish as he chased down a dream time.

The victory was not just about the finish; it was about the entire journey. Fazlie’s meticulous preparation in the months leading up to the race paid off in ways he couldn’t have anticipated. Training over 100km per week, simulating race conditions, and adjusting his nutrition plan for optimal performance all contributed to his ability to go the distance. His race strategy—balancing energy conservation with moments of acceleration—was executed flawlessly.

But it wasn’t just about the running. Fazlie had an entire team behind him, and he credits Team KOMY for playing an essential role in his success. From race-day logistics to emotional support, they were his backbone every step of the way.

“The team really makes a difference,” he said. “This is never a solo effort. It takes a village. My crew, my support system, they were as much a part of this victory as I was.”

For those watching from the sidelines, Fazlie’s win was nothing short of inspirational. His resilience, his comeback, and his refusal to give up in the face of adversity left an indelible mark on everyone who witnessed it.

As Fazlie crossed the finish line, he not only proved to himself that he was capable of more than he realised, but he also set an example for all ultra-runners: no matter the odds, no matter the obstacles, the race is won in the mind.

For the future, Fazlie isn’t stopping here. He has his eyes set on even bigger challenges, including a 400km debut. “I’ve always dreamed of competing in the Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB),” he revealed. “That’s the ultimate challenge, and I’m working towards it. But first, I’ll keep pushing my limits—this win has only ignited the fire inside me more.”

As for the aspiring ultra-runners out there, Fazlie’s advice is simple: “Embrace the pain. Embrace the discomfort. And most importantly, enjoy the journey. Ultra-running is about more than finishing—it’s about finding out what you’re really made of.”

Mohd Fazlie Rosli’s win at the UiTM Ultra 2025 was a celebration of perseverance, team spirit, and the relentless pursuit of excellence. This victory marks the start of an exciting new chapter for this Malaysian ultra-runner, and we can’t wait to see where his unstoppable drive will take him next.
