Triathlete Douglas Waymark collapsed and died while attempting a 300 mile (482km) mega triathlon from London to Paris.

Starting from Marble Arch in Central London and headed to the Arc de Triomph in Paris, the 44 year old had already had run from London to Dover before attempting to swim the English Channel. However, he struggled during the swim, collapsed and passed away.

“He passed out and was taken by helicopter to a hospital in Ashford. At around midnight, he sadly died. We are all devastated but take comfort in him doing what he loved best to the very end.” said Graham Fletcher.

Waymark has previously completed ten triathlons in ten days, and once cycled 200 miles in the Cotswolds to create GPS artwork of a kite. He had also previously attempted to tackle ‘The World’s Toughest Triathlon’ – a 2.5-mile swim in Llyn Padarn, near Snowdonia, a 116-mile bike ride and a 25-mile run up Mount Snowdon.

The Arch to Arc event costs £3000 to enter and is held by Enduroman Ultra Events, with just 25 people having completed it before.
