The world would expect no one lesser than the Brownlee brothers – Alistair and Jonny to lead the upcoming chapter of the World Triathlon Series championships in Leeds this weekend.
With over 80,000 fans expected to cheer on the elites, Great Britain’s finest will provide fireworks in the men and women category.
Britain’s Non Stanford started her 2017 season with a win in Chengdu while Ashleigh Gentle reaped the Silver medal in Gold Coast and is the top ranked Australian. Compatriots Gillian Backhouse and Charlotte McShane too have had strong finishes. They will be watching out for Japan’s Juri Ide who won bronze in Gold Coast and also Ai Ueda who’s still waiting for her shining moment this year.
In the men’s race, Olympic bronze medallist Henri Schoeman (RSA) is eager to land on the podium, after his disappointing fourth place finish in Yokohama recently. He has Spain’s Fernando Alarza to contend with who has finished in the top four of every single WTS this season.
Olympic gold medallist, older brother Alistair Brownlee has been competing in middle distance triathlon races recently but will certainly return to short distance for this race in Leeds, where he started his triathlon career. Jonathan Brownlee too will focus on racing for points and finishing right this time, after some misses and upsets this season.
