Malaysia’s Sanjay Manimaran Defends 10km Title at Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon 2024

The streets of Singapore came alive with energy as over 13,000 runners competed in the 10km category of the Standard Chartered Singapore Marathon (SCSM) 2024. Among the participants, Sanjay Manimaran delivered a stellar performance, clinching victory in the men’s category with a time of 32:46 and securing his status as a back-to-back champion.

Despite facing adversity in the lead-up to the race, Sanjay demonstrated extraordinary resilience. Speaking after his win, he revealed, “I’m very happy and surprised that I was able to come in first because just last week I suffered an injury in my left thigh. I was quite worried if I’d be able to perform my best. It was tough, but with the help of physio and my coach, I managed to recover quickly and get back on my feet!”

In the women’s 10km category, Japan’s Reia Iwade claimed victory with an impressive time of 37:29. Reia expressed her excitement, saying, “I’m delighted to have won in the 10km, especially since it was so competitive! The energy was great, running alongside everyone else who were all striving to do their best. It was a great race experience overall!” Her strong performance and competitive spirit highlighted the high standard of the race.

Jonathan crossed the finish line first in 17:51, followed closely by Praveen at 18:41. Reflecting on his win, the 19-year-old said, “I’m really thankful to have taken the win in the 5km race. For young athletes like myself, it’s a great experience to participate in such a race in a fun yet competitive manner.” In the women’s 5km category, Tram Anh Nguyen Ngoc emerged victorious with a stellar time of 18:35. Having previously completed full and half marathons, Tram Anh noted that this race offered a different challenge and shared her joy at the unexpected win.

The 10km route, which took runners past landmarks such as Nicoll Highway and Esplanade Bridge, was complemented by the celebratory atmosphere at the finish line on Anderson Bridge. Family and friends gathered to cheer on the runners, while roving Samba dancers, drummers, and other performers kept the energy high.

As the SCSM continues tomorrow with the Half Marathon, Marathon, and the Ekiden categories, the incredible performances in the 5km and 10km races set the tone for an unforgettable weekend.
