Foley and Findlay Conquer Gruelling Pennsylvania Terrain for Championship Glory

American Trevor Foley and Canadian Paula Findlay captured the North American Championship titles at the Ironman seventy-point-three Pennsylvania Happy Valley triathlon, earning maximum Experience Oman Ironman Pro Series points against a formidable global field. Set against the rolling terrain of central Pennsylvania and finishing alongside the iconic Beaver Stadium, the demanding course tested the endurance of top professional triathletes and over one thousand seven hundred age-group competitors. The challenging event, marking its first visit to the region, delivered a spectacular display of athletic prowess across all three disciplines in the two thousand and twenty-six season.

The men’s race evolved into one of the most dramatic spectacles of the year, defined by an epic head-to-head battle between Foley and compatriot Sam Long. After exiting the swim facing a significant deficit, both athletes mounted a ferocious chase on the bicycle, swiftly closing the gap to the race leaders whilst navigating the punishing elevation changes. Long erased a twenty-nine-second deficit off the bike in under five minutes, only to be joined at the front by a surging Foley. The pair ran stride-for-stride for the majority of the half-marathon distance, exchanging the lead multiple times before Foley unleashed a devastating acceleration in the final kilometres to secure his second overall victory of the season with a winning time of three hours, forty-two minutes, and twenty-five seconds.

In stark contrast to the men’s duel, the women’s race showcased an absolute masterclass in controlled dominance by Findlay, who orchestrated a near-flawless performance to claim her first victory of the campaign. A powerful swim positioned her at the sharp end of the field early, establishing a formidable foundation for the gruelling bicycle segment. Capitalising on her strength, she dispatched the field with a race-best cycling split, forging a commanding lead of over three minutes heading into the final transition. From that point, Findlay was untouchable, executing a perfectly paced thirteen-point-one-mile run to cross the finish line completely unchallenged.

Findlay secured the crown with a monumental winning margin of four minutes and eight seconds over returning champion Lydia Russell, whilst Australian Grace Thek completed the podium following a blistering one-hour-and-twenty-two-minute half-marathon. In the men’s division, Long settled for second place, with local university alumnus Jason West storming through the field to secure third. The results caused significant shifts in the overarching series standings, propelling Long into third place and elevating Foley to sixth overall, whilst Hannah Berry and Thek climbed to second and third respectively in the women’s rankings following their stellar performances.
