Spartan Race, the world’s leader in obstacle racing announced today that 2013 Spartan Race World Champion Hobie Call (USA) and 2015 World Champion Zuzana Kocumova (CZE) have reclaimed their titles and have been named 2016 Reebok Spartan Race World Champions, after finishing first among a field of thousands of the world’s best athletes representing over 25 countries in Lake Tahoe, CA.

Both champions earned over $15,000 in cash and prizes, along with the distinction of the title of Reebok Spartan Race World Champion.

Set on the same hallowed ground as the 1960 Winter Olympics, over 10,000 athletes from across the globe scaled some of the most challenging mountain terrain to compete for over $100,000 in cash and prizes. The 2016 Spartan World Championship course featured never before seen obstacles and utilized new terrain and mountain trails at the epic Squaw Valley in North Lake Tahoe.

NBC was once again on hand to film all of the action, and will televise the Reebok Spartan Race World Championship on December 25th, 2016 – a culmination of the network’s comprehensive season-long coverage of Spartan Race which began earlier this year.

Taking first in the men’s championship heat was 39-year-old Hobie Call from Tooele, UT with a time of 2:25:32. Finishing close in second place was 2016 Spartan U.S. Championship Series winner Ryan Atkins (CAN) in 2:25:59and 2015 Spartan Race World Champion Robert Killian (USA) finished third with a time of 2:28:10.

With another dominant performance in the women’s championship heat to take first place was 2015 Spartan Race World Champion and 2016 Spartan Race European Champion Zuzana Kocumova. The 37 year-old athlete from Liberec, Czech Republic finished with a time of 2:46:55. In a photo finish race for second place, 2016 Spartan U.S. Championship Series winner Lindsay Webster (CAN) took second place in the women’s championship heat with a time of 2:58:24, narrowly edging out fellow Canadian Faye Stenning who finished third, also with a time of 2:58:24.

The Reebok Spartan Race World Championship took place at the crest of the striking Sierra Nevada mountain range in North Lake Tahoe, California, USA with the Reebok Spartan Race World Championship Beast (12+ miles/ 30+ obstacles) taking place on Saturday, in addition to a Spartan Sprint (3+ miles/ 20+ obstacles), a Spartan Beast, Ultra Beast (26+ miles/ 60+ obstacles). The Spartan Kids race also took place on Saturday and Sunday.
