TriFactor World Championships Returns to Quzhou After Six Years – Welcoming 1,223 Global Athletes to the Ancient City

The TriFactor World Championships Quzhou 2025 made a triumphant return after its last edition in 2019, drawing 1,223 athletes from 15 provinces and municipalities across China, representing 37 cities and 13 countries and regions, to the historic and picturesque city of Quzhou, Zhejiang, on October 18–19.

Set against the iconic backdrop of Quzhou’s city centre, the event transformed the Ancient City into a festival of endurance, unity, and celebration. Athletes competed across Elite, Full and Half Distance Age Groups, Duathlon, and Fun Run categories, exemplifying TriFactor’s mission of inclusive participation and community engagement.

Thousands of spectators and volunteers lined the streets to cheer participants along a carefully designed racecourse. Competitors swam in the crystal-clear waters of the Qu River, and cycled and ran past landmarks including Luming Grassland, the “Two Centers” area, and Quzhou Sports Center, blending modern architecture with centuries-old heritage and creating a poetic urban racing experience.

Sports, Culture, and Tourism Integration

Beyond the athletic competition, the event served as a catalyst for cultural and tourism development. Quzhou integrated its rich local tourism resources to provide athletes and visitors with an immersive travel experience, driving local consumption and economic activity.

  • Core scenic areas experienced diverse visitors from various countries.
  • Hotels and homestays saw significant booking increases.
  • The restaurant and retail sectors were energized by event-driven demand.

This approach demonstrates Quzhou’s innovative model of “promoting tourism through sports, and revitalizing the city through events”, creating a distinctive blueprint for urban triathlon events globally.

Athletes from around the world lauded both the event organization and Quzhou’s scenic and historic cityscape.

Cameron Brown, 12-time Ironman World Champion from New Zealand, returning for his fourth appearance, said:
“I’m delighted to be back racing in Quzhou. The new course is spectacular — one of the best-organized and most scenic venues I’ve experienced in my career.”

Anthony, a competitor from England, highlighted the experience of swimming alongside the historic Shuitingmen Archway:
“Racing while surrounded by centuries of history — this is an unparalleled feeling.”

Men’s Elite Champion Huang Du Yuan praised Quzhou’s local cuisine and modern racecourse, expressing excitement to return next year.

The athletes’ testimonials underscore the event’s unique value, combining competitive passion with the timeless charm of Quzhou’s ancient streets and modern cityscape.

“We are deeply grateful to the government of Quzhou for their strong support and trust in bringing the TriFactor World Championships back to the city,” said Ryan Zeng, Co-Founder of TriFactor China.

International participants also expressed their admiration for the city and the race. Kelly Tandiono, racing in China for the first time, said:
“I was impressed by the scenic route and the very well-organized race management — a truly memorable experience.

Among the inspiring stories was Ms. Xue from Quzhou, a local age-group athlete who began her triathlon journey in the TriFactor Chinqu race in 2018. Her first triathlon coach, Melvin Fausto from the Philippines, who organized the first TriFactor Training Camp in Quzhou in 2008, praised the rise of China’s next generation of triathletes through the TriFactor ecosystem.

Melvin Fausto Having seen every TriFactor in Quzhou, it’s been wonderful to watch the athletes and the event itself progress, all surrounded by our vibrant culture and food. Congratulations to TriFactor and the Quzhou government for a truly memorable event!”
