Top British Ultra-Marathoner Joasia Zakrzewski Banned for a Year Following Car Usage Allegations
Joasia Zakrzewski, a leading British ultra-marathon runner, is handed a 12-month ban by a UK Athletics (UKA) disciplinary panel following allegations of car usage during the GB Ultras Manchester to Liverpool 50-mile race on 7 April.
Zakrzewski admitted to entering a friend’s vehicle, claiming injury, but tracking system data revealed a 4km car stint during the race. The 47-year-old, known for her 2014 Commonwealth Games marathon and a world 48-hour distance record, denies intentional cheating, attributing her actions to jet lag from Australia and impaired judgment.
The UKA panel rejected her explanation, banning Zakrzewski from UKA races, representing Great Britain, coaching, and managing for a year. The Independent Disciplinary Panel of UK Athletics backed this decision, stating she violated the UKA code of conduct.
