The PETRONAS Le Tour de Langkawi 2020 is only midway but the race has been exciting with many upsets and new faces winning the podiums.

In the Queen Stage at Genting Highlands, 21 year-old Kevin Rivera created history as the first Costa Rican stage winner but it was Team Sapura Cycling’s Danilo Celano who emerged the biggest winner after taking the yellow jersey on Stage 4.

Celano, 30, is firmly in place for a repeat overall title for Sapura after Australian Benjamin Dyball bagged the victory for them last year, while the Malaysian outfit also moved into the teams classification lead.

On the opening stage in Kuching, Sarawak, 19 year-old Kazakhstan’s Yevgeniy Fedorov created a sensational victory for the Vino-Astana Motors team with a solo finish to bag the stage.

Another 19 year-old Australian Taj Jones of the ARA Pro Cycling Sunshine Coast team followed suit by upsetting hot favourite Max Walscheid to take victory in a bunch sprint that ended the 175.5km Stage 2 from Kuala Terengganu to Kerteh.

The 26 year-old German Max Walscheid of the NTT Pro Cycling Team, finally bagged his own stage victory in a bunch sprint which ended at the Kuala Lumpur City Centre on stage 3.

Meanwhile, Sapura’s Malaysian youngster Nur Aiman Zariff retained the red jersey on stage 4 and is in a good position to emerge as the first ever Malaysian to win that classification in the race with a 15 point lead over Rivera who moved into second.
