Most Triathletes start their race morning looking forward to the competition, and finishing with a personal best record. However, race day for Davis Frease (pic above) took a different spin at the recent Big Bear Triathlon in California, USA.

USMES Elite Team triathlete Frease, is a Navy medic and has previously won the 25-29 age group at the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 Texas, and finished 2nd at the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 SUPERFROG.

Midway through the Triathlon at the Big Bear, Davis stopped his own race to administer repeated rounds of CPR to a 5km runner (running a concurrent race) whose heart had stopped during the high-elevation event. After paramedics arrived, Davis decided to complete his race, eventually finishing second overall.

“More than anything I’m just grateful I was in the right place at the right time on. The American Heart Association isn’t lying when they say CPR saves lives!” Frease said.
