Fatehah Mustapa reigns as Queen of Cycling with historical 4 gold medals in SEA Games 2017
Fatehah Mustapa once again reigns as the Queen of Cycling and became the first cyclist to bag four gold medals in a single SEA Games edition.
On the last day of Track Cycling events at the National Velodrome in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, Fatehah won the women’s 500m time trial and created a new national record of 34.542 seconds in the race which was 0.125 second faster than the national record she did in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
“I’m happy I smashed my national record. My coach (John Beasley) is also happy that I’ve regained my form. It’s an amazing feeling to race in front of my home fans,” said Fatehah
The silver and bronze went to Indonesia’s Crismonita Dwi Putri who crossed the finish line two seconds behind, followed closely by her compatriot Santia Tri Kusuma.
In the Keirin event, the 28-year-old Melbourne-based cyclist surged across the finish line confidently to reap her fourth gold medal. Fatehah’s two earlier golds came in the Individual Sprint and Team Sprint with Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan.
