With over 120,000 applicants on the edge of their seats, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon is gearing up to reveal the much-anticipated selection status for the 2024 race. Fresh off the triumphs of this year’s event, organisers are preparing for another historic race, with a projected 50,000 participants ready to take on the challenge in Grant Park on 13th October 2024.
Following the resounding success of the 2023 Bank of America Chicago Marathon, which witnessed record-breaking achievements and a staggering $30.4 million in charity fundraising, the marathon has solidified its position as a global phenomenon. Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski reflected on the overwhelming interest, stating, “The energy and excitement of race day captured the attention of runners from around the world and we’re humbled by the extraordinary interest we’ve seen as a result. We look forward to welcoming a new field of participants in 2024 and once again putting on a race that unites the local and global running communities on the streets of Chicago.”
Today’s notifications will determine the fate of applicants eagerly awaiting entry into the 2024 race. While some will secure their spot through the drawing, others still have the opportunity to participate by aligning with the Bank of America Chicago Marathon Charity Programme.
Rooted in its inception in 2002, the Charity Programme has been a philanthropic powerhouse, amassing over $322 million for diverse causes locally, nationally, and globally. The 2024 Charity Programme features 200 nonprofit organisations spanning categories such as education, youth development, healthcare, and social services.
Guaranteed entries into the 2024 marathon are reserved for legacy finishers, time qualifiers, international tour group participants, charity runners, 2023 Bank of America Chicago Distance Series finishers, and those who cancelled their 2023 race entries.
For those still eager to hit the marathon route in 2024, the Charity Programme presents an enticing opportunity. Prospective participants can register to run for an official charity, committing to raising a minimum of $1,750. A comprehensive list of official charities and details on joining a charity team can be found at chicagomarathon.com/charity.
Pinkowski expressed excitement about welcoming a fresh cohort of participants in 2024 and reiterated the event’s commitment to uniting both local and global running communities on the vibrant streets of Chicago.
As the running world eagerly awaits the outcome of the selection process, the Bank of America Chicago Marathon continues to stand as a symbol of excellence, bringing together athletes, charities, and spectators for a celebration of athleticism and philanthropy.
