Philippines’ Danao City to Host Inaugural International Ultra Trail Running Event
Danao City takes its place on the global trail running stage with the announcement of its first International Ultra Trail event. The groundbreaking initiative positions Danao City as the host for the inaugural International Ultra Trail Running Event in Cebu, officially sanctioned by Asia Trail Master (ATM).
Asia Trail Master, led by Kris Van de Velde, orchestrates an annual championship series across 15 countries. Danao City’s inclusion in this prestigious series signifies a significant leap forward in terms of international recognition and sports tourism.
The press conference, attended by key figures including Danao City Mayor Thomas Mark “Mix” Durano, Committee Chair on Tourism Hon. Ivy Durano, and various sponsors, revealed the event’s official date – 27 to 28 January 2024. Participants can choose from distances including 15km, 30km, 50km, and 100km, open to athletes aged 19 and above from around the world.
Early Bird registration, from 26 October to 30 November 2023, offers competitive rates ranging from P2,000 to P3,200. The Regular Rate, effective from 1 December 2023 to 10 January 2024, will apply post the Early Bird period. Detailed registration information will be available on the Danao City Gov’t Facebook Page from 26 October 2023.
The organiser also unveiled the four peaks of Danao City – Mt. Lantauan, Mt. Mago, Licos Peak, and Manghilao Peak – set to play a pivotal role in the upcoming ultra trail run. These natural wonders provide a breathtaking backdrop, underlining Danao City’s suitability for such a challenging sporting event.
The 1st Danao City International Ultra Trail promises to be a phenomenal event, showcasing the City Government of Danao’s commitment to promoting Sports Tourism and establishing its challenging peaks and terrains on the international trail running scene.
In addition to the trail run, Danao City plans to feature various tour packages, food fests, and zumba/yoga sessions, promising a holistic experience for participants and spectators alike.
