Spain Makes History with First-Ever Women’s Duet Free Title in Artistic Swimming

Spain danced their way into the record books on Thursday as Iris Tio Casas and Lilou Lluis Valette clinched their nation’s first-ever women’s duet free world title at the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025.

The Spanish pair scored a stunning 282.6087 to top the podium, edging out Italy’s Enrica Piccoli and Lucrezia Ruggiero (278.7137) in silver, and Ukraine’s Maiia Doroshko and Tatiana Gayday (277.1117), who took bronze.

With none of the Doha 2024 medallists in the mix this time, the event was wide open—and Spain seized the opportunity in spectacular fashion.

“I have no words. It’s super special,” said Tio Casas, who now boasts two golds and three bronzes at this championship. “We worked a lot this season and we’re getting the results. We didn’t expect this much success in our first year together, but we really connect. We’ve made history, and we’re super happy.”

Behind the magic is coach Andrea Fuentes—an Olympic legend in her own right—who brought both inspiration and innovation to the routine.

“She was my idol,” said Tio Casas. “Now she’s our coach and still the best. She’s helped us find the perfect balance between artistry and difficulty. What we have with her is something really unique.”
