AMA Events, the organisers of the off-road Triathlon, Xterra Samui has announced that the swim section of the has to be cancelled due to dangerous Box Jellyfish in the sea.
A number of incidents involving swimmers and the dangerous Box Jellyfish have been reported on the beaches of Koh Samui recently. Therefore, the organisers have consulted with the Public Health Authority of Surathani Province, the Local Authorities on Koh Samui and some very prominent marine experts and have been strongly advised not to hold the swim section of the race. As ever, the Racer’s safety is very important to AMA.
The race will still be held but triathletes will now compete in a Duathlon race rather than a Triathlon.
