They don’t call it ‘deadlift’ for nothing, as a strongman soon discovered. Strongman Eddie Hall created a record deadlift at 500kg – but then passed out when blood vessels in his head burst.
Nicknamed ‘The Beast’, he achieved the incredible feat at the Leeds Arena at the weekend – but admitted it nearly killed him. Hall had lifted 465kg, which was matched by two other competitors, prompting him to literally raise the bar again.
The 28-year-old burst blood vessels in his head following the success, and suffered nosebleeds, but was thankfully soon back on his feet.
‘That nearly killed me.The pressure on my body was surreal. I passed out after. I had nose bleeds. It’s not healthy doing something like that. But I’ve done it. I’m sure it will be in the history books for a very long time,” said Hall.
‘It’s that great feeling, Like the first man on the moon, the first man to run a mile in under four minutes. And now I’m the first to deadlift half a ton. It’s history and I’m very proud to be a part of it.’
Hall, who is married to Alexandra and has two children, Layla, eight, and Maximum, four, has now set his sights on the World’s Strongest Man competition.
