Running blogger in critical condition after hit by car during Klang City International Marathon

(Facebook)

The running community is fraught with anger and rage, yet are standing together in solidarity for running blogger, Evelyn Ang, who was hit by a car during the Klang City International Marathon held recently.

Better known as ‘missyblurkit’ on her blog, Ang was among two others hit by a car from behind during the run in Klang, Selangor but suffered the worse injuries and continues to fight for her life as her condition remains critical. She suffered severe head injuries in the crash and had brain surgery at Hospital Sungai Buloh yesterday. She has been warded in ICU (Intensive Care Unit) and the next 24-72 hours will be critical to her recovery.

Amiruddin Hamid, 37, and Ahmad Hadafi Jus, 42, were the two others also hit in the crash. They suffered head and ankle injuries but their conditions were not as serious as Ang’s and they are reported to be stable.

Ang is a passionate runner and was participating as a pacer for the marathon. She’s an experienced runner who would set a steady pace so that other runners following her, can finish the race within a particular time.

North Klang OCPD Asst Comm Mazelan Paijan said police are investigating the case for reckless driving. “The driver, who was arrested after the incident, had his urine tested for drugs and it came back negative. He was also cleared of being drunk while driving,” he said when contacted on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the Sports Commissioner’s Office has issued a statement stating that they did not receive any application from the organisers of the Klang City International Marathon to hold the event. Following this, the event did not receive permission from the Sports Commissioner which controls sporting events in the country, and action will be taken against the organisers under the Seksyen 36 Akta Pembangunan Sukan 1997.
