Mohamad Amierul Amin Shamsul Kamal won the 100km at the Malaysia Taman Negara Ultra 2026 overall in 19:46:39, and said he could not have done it without the help of his wife and friends.

The event was held at Taman Negara Kuala Tahan in Jerantut, Pahang, from 23 to 25 October, and the 100km began on the night of 23 October. Amierul, wearing bib 139, was first of 40 overall, first of 37 men and first of 28 in the Men Open (18-39) category, according to the official results.

“I actually didn’t expect to get that time. Without the help of my wife and friends, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve that result,” Amierul told ToughASIA.

“I’m thrilled that I could finish without any injury and finish strong,” he said.

He said the hills and the river sections were the parts of the course that tested him most.

The stretch from CP3 at the 31.65km mark to CP7 at 69.05km took him 7:52:06, according to the official results.

“The river sections actually took a long time because you have to be careful and you can’t go fast at all. That includes the hilly sections too, which were extremely difficult because of how steep they were,” he said.

He said he loves looking at the beauty of nature and that it makes him calmer.

“All the tiredness from the trail can just disappear because of the natural beauty at the event,” he said.

He also described the support he received from villagers.

“I love how the villagers really support the trail runners, especially around the Kampung Pagi area. They gave their support, were friendly with me and recorded videos. They even asked to take photos together, and I joined in,” he said.

He said he makes sure to get enough sleep before the start so he can stay focused during the race, and to carbo-load enough beforehand so he has the energy for every challenge on the course.

For this event, he focused more on full-body strength workouts, training on technical trails and long trail runs. He said his preparation was slightly different from before because of the high elevation gain, adding a few more long trail runs and more time on technical terrain so his body would get used to it.

His next race is Trail des Lenggeng in November.

“Most likely, I’ll come back to Taman Negara to improve my performance further, or maybe I’ll try a different distance instead,” he said.
