Tissot Countdown Clock Unveiled in Doha, 300 Days Before FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027

The Official Tissot Countdown Clock for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 was unveiled in Doha on 31 October, with 300 days to go before Qatar hosts the first edition of the tournament in the MENA region.
The World Cup runs from 27 August to 12 September 2027.
Close to 100 guests attended the launch ceremony at Barahat Msheireb, an open public space in Msheireb Downtown Doha that draws residents and visitors throughout the year.
Those at the ceremony included FIBA President Sheikh Saud Ali Al Thani; H.E. Jassim bin Rashid Al Buenain, vice president of the Local Organizing Committee and secretary general of the Qatar Olympic Committee; Dr. Ahmad Abdulla Al-Buenain, director general of the Local Organizing Committee; Burton Shipley, chair of the board of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027; and FIBA Hall of Famer Hidayet Turkoglu, president of the Turkish Basketball Federation.
The clock’s design joins the form of a giant hoop with a front arch that also calls to mind a watch face.
Visitors can walk through the open structure. Its interconnected net pattern stands for different cultures and communities, and how basketball brings them together.
“Reaching 300 days to go brings us another step closer to welcoming the world to Qatar. The Tissot countdown clock in Msheireb is a symbol of our shared anticipation, connecting our community with basketball fans worldwide,” Dr. Ahmad Abdulla Al-Buenain said.
He said all competition venues were fully ready by the one-year-to-go milestone, and that organisers aim for the tournament to leave a sustainable legacy by promoting basketball, identifying and developing national talent and creating more opportunities for young people to play the game.
He also said that, with all competition venues close together in a single city, fans will have the chance to attend more than one game a day.
“The clock will provide a daily reminder of the excitement building towards the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027,” Shipley said.
“We have been working on the event for many years and now we are entering the last phase to ensure it is an unforgettable World Cup for everyone to enjoy, from the players, coaches, staff and fans, to our proud and respected hosts, here in Qatar.”
Tissot, FIBA’s longstanding Global Partner and the tournament’s Official Timekeeper, recently signed a multi-year extension that takes the partnership into a third decade.
“We are delighted to add to the excitement and anticipation surrounding the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2027 through this countdown clock, bringing fans together as we count down to tip-off,” Tissot CEO Sylvain Dolla said.
“We can’t wait to see the best players in the world gathering in Doha next year.”
