Michael Phelps Swim Spa Challenge to be Held at 2017 IRONMAN World Championship

Hall of Fame Coach and Master Spas Ambassador, Bob Bowman, to Host Performance Clinics

The IRONMAN Village at this year’s IRONMAN World Championship will be home to the Master Spas “Michael Phelps Swim Spa Challenge,” giving attendees a unique opportunity to test their endurance against the 23-time gold medalist. The challenge puts athletes’ stamina and technique to the test, as participants attempt to swim for three minutes at Michael Phelps’ training pace.

The challenge will be held in the Master Spas booth throughout the week, October 10-13, 2017, and will be open to everyone, ages 10 and up. Challenge participants will receive a free t-shirt and have the opportunity to snag additional prizes.

Visitors who are interested in testing their stamina are encouraged to pre-register at to reserve a spot. The challenge was last held at the 2016 Olympic Swimming Trials, where it was booked solid for five straight days with more than 2,500 athletes stepping up to the challenge.

At this year’s IRONMAN World Championship, the experience is expected to draw a sizeable audience once again and is sure to be memorable for competitors and spectators alike. Attendees can stop by to take the challenge or just observe and cheer on challengers vying for a spot on the leaderboard. Spectators can watch participants from the raised platform surrounding the swim spas where they’ll be close to the action.

The challenge will be in the center of the action at Master Spas’ booth in the IRONMAN Village, where Phelps’ legendary coach, Bob Bowman will also be in attendance. Just as he helped guide Phelps and many other elite swimmers to victory, Bowman will be conducting several clinics to demonstrate how the swim spa can be used to improve open water swimming performance. Clinic times will be posted at the Master Spas booth, and experts will be on hand to answer product questions, as well as illustrate the various ways a swim spa can support athletes in achieving their goals.
