Melaka authorities claim river safe to host triathlon

(TheStar)

The Melaka state authorities are claiming that the Melaka river is clean enough to host a triathlon. The International Melaka River Challenge 2018 is expected to attract 1,500 local and foreign participants.

“We intend to promote sports through the river after the Drainage and Irrigation Department found that the river water was safe for recreational activities. As such, the public need not worry about the cleanliness of Melaka River,” said State Tourism, River and Coastal Development Deputy Executive Councillor Datuk Ghazale Muhamad.

The triathlon consisting of swimming, cycling and running will be held over two days from April 28 for both amateurs and professionals with distances catering for all age groups including relay teams.
