Red Bull Defiance is a unique race format that combines running, kayaking and mountain biking disciplines, mixed with the creative element of abseiling and clay bird shooting.
Race together across eight high country stations, set amongst the backdrop of New Zealand’s most wild and spectacular terrain as a team. The full race will take you across multiple disciplines and distances with 71km Mountain Biking, 39km running, 40km Kayaking, 60m Abseiling over 5239 vertical elevation in the course of two days.
You can also register for the Minaret Burn Mountain Bike and/or the Skyline Traverse Run single stage events.
MINARET BURN MTB – 20TH JANUARY 2018
Set in the spectacular Wanaka high country, the Minaret Mountain Bike offers a once a year opportunity to ride in one of New Zealand’s most prestigious high country stations. This single stage event starts with a barge ride across Lake Wanaka, to the start line on Minaret Station.
The ride itself navigates the shoreline of Lake Wanaka with a combination of undulations and a few steeper climbs. It then descends across a mixture of 4wd and single track. This is a once in a lifetime chance to experience one of Wanaka’s most sought after mountain biking experiences.
SKYLINE TRAVERSE – 21ST JANUARY 2018
Complete the most challenging stage of Red Bull Defiance by racing the Skyline Traverse, one of New Zealand’s most spectacular skylines. This is one of the highlights of the Red Bull Defiance event and now you have the opportunity to be a part of the action. This spectacular trail run offers a lengthy ascent followed by a technical traverse across the ridge line of Mt Alpha and Mt Roy.
Get on the starting line alongside three-time Coast to Coast champion, Wanaka-based, Red Bull-backed Braden Currie and Team Thule’s Sam Clark has also begun his campaign within the world of adventure racing. Team Thule has been featured at the top end of the field on the World Adventure Racing circuit for many years.
