New Sponsor energy drinks boosts up Penang International Triathlon and Duathlon

Penang International Triathlon & Duathlon (PgiTD) held its fourth annual event yesterday and was a great success drawing 1000 participants both locally and internationally. 550 participants took part in the triathlon and 450 joined the duathlon.
“This year’s PgiTD is a great boost for tourism in Penang. We have participants from over 22 countries all the way from United States, Australia, Belgium, Britain, Canada, France, Philippines, Germany, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Sweden, Venezuela and Malaysia. This really helps to put us on the map,” said Chairman of G-Club Cyclist Penang, Dato Dr. Lim Seh Guan.

The triathlon was flagged off by Chief Minister of Penang, Y.A.B. Lim Guan Eng, General Manager of SPONSOR Malaysia, Mr. Charles Wong, and Chairman of G-Club Cyclist Penang, Dato Dr. Lim Seh Guan and the triathletes started the day with a 1.5km swim at Pantai Jubilee followed by cycling 40km and running 10km.

Meanwhile, the duathlon started with a 7 km run around the scenic Teluk Bahang fishing village, followed with 40 km cycling loop from Teluk Bahang Dam to Balik Pulau, and then a 10km distance run looping back to the finishing line at Teluk Bahang Dam.
Chris Wright from Great Britain won the Men’s Open in 2hr 49m and he also had the fastest time overall in the Triathlon. Our Malaysians put up a good fight with Wilson Lee and Ivan Ho coming in second and third respectively.

In the Triathlon Women’s Open, Chris Kha Krang took top honours in 3hr 23m far ahead of rivals Adrinne Chew and Yau Joan from Singapore and Malaysia who completed the podium.
Meanwhile, in the Duathlon, Malaysian Jason Loh notched the fastest time of the day to win the Men’s Open in 2h 32m and Singaporean Sarah Tan wons the Women’s Open in 3h 15m.
