Inaugural Penang Coast Triathlon features Sprint Triathlon and Sprint Aquathlon – 27.03.2016
Chinese Recreation Club (CRC) and Penang Swimming Club (PSC) are pleased to announce that they will jointly organize an exciting new event in Penang. It is one of the few pool-based Triathlon and Aquathlon events in Malaysia to be held on 27 March 2016 at the Chinese Recreation Club and Penang Swimming Club. The dual host venues allows for an exciting cycling and running route.
In the Sprint Triathlon, participants have to complete an 800m pool swim followed by 24km of cycling and ending with a 7km run. Meanwhile for the Sprint Aquathlon, participants have to complete an 800m pool swim followed by 7km of running. The flat and fast two-loop cycling route takes participants out and around the tree-lined road of Jalan Kelawei and the sea facing stretch along Persiaran Gurney. The cycling route begins and finishes at CRC. Meanwhile the run begins at CRC and brings participants along the coastal road from the boardwalk of Persiaran Gurney until PSC.
There are six categories available for the Sprint Triathlon, Men Open, Men Veteran, Women Open, Women Veteran, Youth Boys and Youth Girls, while there are four categories available for the Sprint Aquathlon, Men Open, Women Open, Youth Boys and Youth Girls. This is the first time in this event that we are introducing a Kids Aquathlon category with 400m pool swim and 2km run to cater to children aged seven to eleven years old. In the past, we have had success in encouraging Youth participation in multisports events.
Penang Coast Triathlon offers awards for top three finishers across all categories. Meanwhile, participants who have signed up are entitled to a goodie bag, a limited edition technical T-shirt and finisher’s medal.
Penang Coast Triathlon is a very beginner friendly triathlon and aquathlon because the swim is conducted in a pool. Penang Coast Triathlon is managed by Runners Unite, an event company with many years of multisport event experience and has the full support of the Chinese Recreation Club (CRC) and Penang Swimming Club (PSC).
The official apparel and shoe sponsor is Altra Running and the official media partner is Tough Asia. Cash sponsors consists of Curio Pack, E World Gift Dot Com Sdn Bhd, MX Pac Sdn Bhd, MX Wheel Technology while sponsors in-kind consists of Chin Aik Bicycle, Butter Olive Bakery, Perusahaan Sindi Group and SOrganic.
We hope that with the introduction of this new event, we will be encouraging the growth of multi-sports in Penang. On top of that we hope the event will become a key multi-sport event in Penang’s sporting calendar.
