Professional Australian Triathlete, Lachlan Kerin truly embodied the cliche quote, “When there’s a will there’s a way”. In the middle of the Challenge Iskandar Puteri race recently, he faced a irrecoverable mechanical failure on his bike and quickly picked up a commuter bike to finish the race.
“Unfortunately just under 60k into the bike at Challenge Iskandar Puteri, I managed to snap my steerer meaning my handlebars, frame and fork were no longer together. Luckily for me, I was able to muster a city bike and get the last 32ish km done before making a lot of mates on a nice jog/stroll in skin melting heat.” Kerin posted on Instagram.

“The city bike, despite it’s top speed of about 18km/hr and no water bottle holder (not ideal for 2hr in asian heat), was actually pretty damn fun albeit not ideal. It made for a looooong day but and epic memory and one I won’t forget soon!” added Kerin.
Kerin spotted a few oBikes nearby and since they were same ones in his home country, he picked one up to continue the remaining 30km of the bike leg. Despite the setback, Kerin finished the 1.9km swim, 90km bike and 21km run race in 5h 42m 44s in Johor.
