Despite the COVID-19 pandemic claiming another victim in the World Athletics Half Marathon Championships in Poland, the governing body has launched a new virtual half marathon race on October 17.
On the same day as the world’s elite runners competing for the championship in Gdynia, runners all around the world are invited to run the same distance, any place and any pace and the whole world will come together in the biggest half marathon in history.

The 24th edition of the half marathon world championship was previously slated in March but postponed to October due to the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Gdynia is one of the youngest cities in Poland, with a population of 246,000 on Poland’s Baltic coast. 25,000 runners are expected to grace the city’s mass race which includes youth runs and relays for children a day before the professional race.
As the event’s official motto says: ALL YOU NEED IS RUNNING.
