IRONMAN takes over Singapore Marathon

IRONMAN secured a 10-year partnership with Sport Singapore, and will now become the operator of the annual Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore (SCMS), starting this December.

With IRONMAN Endurance Asia’s acquisition of Spectrum Worldwide which has organised the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore since 2013, and the backing of Wanda Sports as its parent company, IRONMAN has the strength to grow the marathon both in scale and stature.

The Marathon Singapore started in 1982 and over the past five years has had approximately 260,000 athletes participate.

“As we celebrate Marathon Singapore’s 15-year partnership with Standard Chartered Bank as title sponsor, we have reached an important milestone to reflect and review what’s next for Singapore’s signature running event,” said Mr. Lim Teck Yin, CEO of Sport Singapore.

This will be IRONMAN’s first running event in Singapore and will be the home of the new IRONMAN Endurance Asia headquarters.

“IRONMAN is committed to delivering exceptional events and we look forward to working with Sport Singapore to raise the profile of the historic Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore to athletes around the world,” said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer of IRONMAN.

With the addition of the Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore, IRONMAN now owns and/or operates 5 marathons around the world. IRONMAN, a Wanda Sports Holdings company, provides more than 680,000 participants annually the benefits of endurance sports through the businesses vast offerings.

The Standard Chartered Marathon Singapore is the only IAAF Gold Label race in Southeast Asia, and will be celebrating its 15th  anniversary on December 4, 2016.
