Philippines’s Triathlon medal hopes rest on Nikko Bryan Huelgas and Claire Marie Adorna at the 2017 KL Southeast Asian (SEA) Games.

The Filipinos defend their respective crowns at the Water Sports Complex in Putrajaya next week on Monday, Aug 21st. Huelgas was also dominant at the recent ASTC Triathlon Asian Championships in Jakabaring Sports City in Indonesia, finishing in 2:00:50, five minutes ahead of SEA Games rivals Indonesians Jauhari Johan and Muhammad Ahlul Firman.

Adorna has been training for a month in Phuket, Thailand, and is nursing a mild hamstring injury that limited her performance in the Asian meet. However, her coach Melvin Fausto believes that she’s in fighting form and could easily defend her title.

“I’m expecting both of them to win gold medals,” said Tom Carrasco, President of the Triathlon Association of Philippines, former Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) chairman and member of the SEA Games task force.

Fellow teammates Kim Mangrobang and John Chicano are also tipped to win medals. Mangrobang won the silver medal in Singapore two years ago.
