KLSCM 2026 Proceeds as Scheduled, Kids Dash Axed Over Haze Concerns

The 2026 Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon (KLSCM) is set to go ahead as planned this weekend, though organisers have officially cancelled the Kids Dash categories to protect younger runners from the current haze situation.

All major adult events—including the Full Marathon, ASICS Half Marathon, IHH 10km, and 5km categories—will proceed as scheduled.

The decision to axe the children’s races was made following discussions with co-organisers Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and title sponsor Standard Chartered Malaysia, prioritising the health and well-being of the youngest participants.

“We have continuously monitored the haze situation and have made this difficult decision after much careful deliberation,” said Rainer Biemans, KLSCM Project Director. “We are disappointed that we are unable to proceed with the Kids Dash events, but we have to prioritise the health and safety of the children over letting them run in less than perfect conditions.”

While the adult categories are moving forward, Biemans cautioned participants to be mindful of the challenging weather. He advised runners, particularly those with underlying health issues, to “weigh your options carefully” and listen to their bodies before deciding to hit the route. Organisers will continue to monitor race conditions throughout Saturday in hopes of favourable weather for Sunday’s main events.

Despite the cancellation, Kids Dash participants will still receive their race entitlements. Parents can collect these items at the Information Counter at Dataran Merdeka on Saturday, 3 October, between 8:00 am and 12:00 pm. A child’s race bib must be presented to claim the entitlements.

Meanwhile, the Race Entry Pack Collection and Active Lifestyle Expo will continue to operate as usual at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) until Saturday.
