In 2016, Johnny Agar and his dad, Jeff Agar made headlines as they trained together for the World Ironman Championship in Kona, Hawaii.
Jeff pushed and pulled Johnny for the entire triathlon until the last mile, where Johnny walked it alone with his walker, has always been Johnny’s lifelong dream.
Though they weren’t able to finish the race, that hasn’t stopped Johnny from training and moving forward. In fact, Johnny and Jeff competed at the IRONMAN 70.3 in Florida recently.

As an athlete that has overcome many obstacles, Johnny was inspired by Michael Phelps and, specifically, Under Armour’s Rule Yourself ad that launched last year. Eventually, Johnny’s mom created a version of the video to motivate Johnny linked below. It’s not only inspiring, but incredible how they were able to mirror the ad – shot for shot.
Phelps saw the video, learned about Johnny’s story, and got on the phone with Johnny and wished him luck at the IRONMAN 70.3 Florida.
Embodying the true definition of being an athlete, Johnny’s story has inspired others as he continues to push himself to new heights.
