In order to achieve your full potential, Strala Yoga’s founder, Tara Stiles advocates practising yoga to understand your body effectively. The top benefit and the most valuable by far, is stress reduction and management.
When you learn how to use your whole body effectively and efficiently, you can accomplish simple and challenging moments with the least amount of effort required.
Reebok fans were invited to ask Stiles questions over Twitter, as she shared her wealth of knowledge and experience on tapping our inner yogi.
Stiles: Especially when considering an old injury, it’s important not to get in the same habits that lead to tension and more pain.
A great rule is to move easy, everything you’ve got, in every direction you can. Start in a position where you are comfortable and expand from there.
Try standing, take a big inhale and float your arms out and up. Soften your knees and relax your torso over your legs. Relax your head and neck and hang here for a few long deep breaths. Try rolling up and down several times gently with your breath. The more non-linear your movements are the better for your whole body health and mobility.
Stiles: How you move shows us how you do everything. If you give up easily on yourself in a move, that says the same for life. If you push yourself and burn out, that says you are working against yourself in your life.
When we look at how we practice, instead of what the poses are that we can and cannot do, we are gaining the benefits of the practice. Otherwise, yoga is just physical shapes with little benefits. It’s much more interesting and fun to practice with your whole self.
