Not only did Mathew Fraser win the title Fittest on Earth at the 2016 Reebok CrossFit Games, but he smashed the record with the biggest lead over his rivals in the history of the games.

Fraser’s historical lead smashes the win

Fraser amassed a historical lead of 197 points ahead of second-place finisher Ben Smith, who won the Games last year. Fraser had finished second place for two consecutive years but this time he’s no longer the groom’s bestman, but the best.

Consistency was the name of the game as Fraser recorded seven second-place event finishes and one first-place finish. Now that he’s reached his goal, Fraser has set a new objective.

“Keep winning it. As long as it stays fun and I’m healthy, I’ll keep going,’” said the 26-year-old three-time Games competitor.

Katrin Tanja Davidsdottir meanwhile, became the first female repeat champion since Annie Thorisdottir won the Games in 2011 and 2012. The experience was one she couldn’t put into words.

“I don’t know. It feels amazing and it’s been a great journey,” said a beaming Davidsdottir as she grasped an Icelandic flag.

Davidsdottir, 23, is a four-time Games competitor. She won first place in two of three events in the handstand walk, running and plow pulling, and stayed competitive in Suicide Sprint by taking 10th.

The Icelandic lady seized both the handles and perhaps the day in The Plow. She staved off a late charge by Sam Briggs to take her second win of the morning. Toomey was sixth.

Davidsdottir faced stiff competition from Tia-Clair Toomey who often traded 1st-2nd places on the leaderboard and narrowly beat Toomey by 11 points.
