9 Things You Need to Know Before Running the 2023 Penang Bridge International Marathon this Weekend

Anticipation is reaching a crescendo as the 2023 Penang Bridge International Marathon approaches, promising participants an experience to remember on 17 December 2023. As runners gear up for the challenge, we present a comprehensive guide to ensure a seamless and enjoyable event.

1. Race Day Schedule:

  • Full Marathon:
    • Start Time: 1:30 am
    • Finish Time: 8:30 am
  • Half Marathon:
    • Start Time: 3:00 am
    • Finish Time: 6:30 am
  • 10KM Run:
    • Start Time: 6:30 am
    • Finish Time: 8:00 am

2. Baggage Counter:

The baggage counter swings into action from 10:30 pm on 16 December 2023, and remains operational until race day.

3. Sweepers:
Sweeper balloons signify the conclusion of each race category. The finish line officially shuts down upon the sweepers’ passage, marking the end of finisher medals and tees distribution. Runners trailing behind the sweepers are required to board the sweeper bus and will not be eligible for finisher entitlements or the lucky draw.

4. Prize Giving Ceremony and Lucky Draw:
The much-anticipated Prize Giving Ceremony kicks off at 8:05 am, followed by an exciting lucky draw at 8:40 am.

5. Surau for Prayers:
Suraus are conveniently located at the race village (Site A) and Penang Bridge Toll Plaza for Muslim participants.

6. Water Stations:

  • Full marathon: 18 water stations (excluding Site A)
  • Half marathon: 9 water stations (excluding Site A)

7. Parking:
Participants using the car park opposite Queensbay Ball must enter by 11:00 pm on December 16, 2023, and can exit only after 10:00 am on December 17, 2023. Alternatively, choose from the 24-hour Queensbay Mall or utilize the provided shuttle bus service.

8. Starting Line for 10KM:
The starting line for the 10KM category is near Eastin Hotel, separate from the half and full marathon categories.

9. Transportation:

  • Penang Bridge (first bridge) closes from 12:00 am to 10:00 am on 17 December 2023.
  • Ferry services run every 40 minutes from Pengkalan Sultan Abdul Halim to Sweettenham Pier Cruise Terminal.
  • Free shuttle buses by Rapid Penang operate every 15 minutes between the Marathon Site and Komtar Bus Terminal.
