If you think Ironman triathlons have become ‘mainstream’, how about doubling it up?
52 year old Milind Soman embraced the challenge of swimming 10 km, cycling 418 km and running an ultra long distance of 84 km, totalling 512 km over 3 days at the Ultraman Florida in Ontario, Canada.
Ultraman Florida is guaranteed to test a triathlete’s physical and mental limits over three days, but will create memories that will last a lifetime. The race is divided over three consecutive days, with the 10km swim on day 1 in the warm, fresh water lakes of the Conway Chain followed by a 146km bike ride. The second day has the triathlete cycling 276km which makes up the second portion of the cycling leg. On the third and last day, triathletes will complete the 84km double-marathon from South Lake Trail in Clermont and ends in the beautiful town of Windermere, Florida, known for its beautiful lakes and canopy of ancient oak trees. Each stage comes with a strict cut-off time in lieu of safety precautions.
Hailing from India, Milind’s Ultraman feat broke the Indian internet and Milind rose to a fitness icon. Soman, a model turned endurance athlete has been training over three years to run, cycle and swim long distances. He has also completed the Ironman distance which covers 226km, close to half the Ultraman Florida.
A total of 5 Indians competed at the Ultraman Florida this year, with triathletes keeping a keen eye on their training regime plus diet and nutrition. Got yourself a new goal now?
