If you think indoor climbing walls are unimaginative and boring, scripted inside shopping malls and shop lots, here’s 5 walls to inspire that wild spark in you and you might just take up climbing even if you’ve never tried it before.
#1 Make a big splash!
Our personal favourite only because it ends with a big splash in a swimming pool in Utah, USA.
#2 Shiver me booties, an ice wall!
With the heatwave upon us, indoor ice walls might not be such a bad idea. You get to dress up in ice boots with sharp teeth and use ice picks for a change, while testing your trust in your feet. Pretend you’re making a movie in the meantime, and no shaving ice for a dessert while you’re at it, alright!
#3 Wall, I’ll be dam-med
Pardon my French, we’re ‘only’ climbing on the inside of a dam in Switzerland. Rumour is, if you can get to the top, you’ll be rewarded with a view of the Alps.
#4 A silo climb that never ends
Yes, I bet you’ve always thought of climbing a chimney but grain silos are much bigger and you can climb in a group too. A unique idea in Bloomington, USA that might just tickle your fancy and they also offer bouldering walls.
#5 Conquer your fear of heights
You can’t miss this french fry-like tower sticking out of the ground in Netherlands. And we bet you’ll love clambering this 37m high tower and did we mention the 11m overhang?
