2020 Edition Cancellations: Salomon X-Trail Malaysia Series and Gold Coast Marathon

Globally, the COVID-19 pandemic is still disrupting lives and normalcy. In the running world, no events have been spared be they the major marathons or a regional favourite such as the Gold Coast Marathon (GCM).

Many Malaysians make the GCM their annual race-cation and make plans a year in advance! Alas, such plans can only be deferred as vision 20-20 does not seem to be crystal clear after all. In the 41 years of GCM, the organisers had to make the most difficult decision to cancel the 2020 edition.

The Queensland Government’s strong approach to addressing the COVID-19 threat which includes restricted gatheringsreduced travel opportunities and a declaration that the Queensland Public Health Emergency has been extended to 17 August 2020 which makes it impossible to deliver this year’s Village Roadshow Theme Parks Gold Coast Marathon on the weekend of July 4 and 5. ” – Gold Coast Marathon

The organisers have now set their sights on the 2021 edition which has been scheduled for July 3-4. More information on race entries can be found on their website.

The old adage goes – no stone is left unturned. Similarly, no events are left in the wake of this COVID-19 pandemic, and so the Salomon X-Trail Malaysia Series 2020 has been been cancelled.

“This we believe would be the best way to move forward and in the best interest of all runners, the event teams from the 5 states, our partners, our sponsors, their family and especially the people living in the 5 towns.” – Salomon X-Trail Malaysia

The series was planned to involve towns across 5 states in Malaysia namely Perak, Putrajaya, Melaka, Penang and Sarawak. According to the organiser, all registered runners will have their entries deferred to 2021. More information can be found on their Facebook page.
