Malaysia’s multi-sports and endurance athlete extraordinaire, Shahrom Abdullah has been graciously sponsored by Thule South East Asia.

Thule has gifted Shahrom with a Thule roof rack for his Subaru XV car, Thule’s latest Atmos X4 Phone case which is impact-proof and scratch proof for his iPhone 6 Plus, and the Paramount 29L knapsack for his outdoor activities. He will also be receiving another heavy duty knapsack for his mission to the North Pole later on.

Having been on a skiing expedition to the South Pole in 2015, Shahrom is now preparing for another expedition to the North Pole in April 2017. The expedition will be carried out in 2 plans, either by ‘All The Way’ for 222km over 21 days or ‘Last Degree Ski’ for 111km over 11 days.

The terrain on the North Pole will be more tricky as it’s icy glaciers so there will be two approaches to achieving the mission.

“Due to the icy terrain, we might only be able to cover 10-15km a day on the North Pole as compared to 20-25km a day at the South Pole. You also require strong mental capacity as you’re repeating the same tasks everyday,” says Shahrom.

“Everyday we also eat the same thing, but I’ve trained myself to imagine that I’m eating local home favourites like ‘Gulai Kawah’, a typical Kelantanese beef dish to make myself happy,”

While awaiting centralise training to begin in Sapporo, Japan, Shahrom is currently keeping fit on his own with some strength and endurance training. Everything will be carried on a sleigh, therefore Shahrom will be dragging huge tyres to build up some muscles for the job.

Shahrom has also recently opened his own bicycle shop named SA Bike in Alam Damai, Cheras and will be carrying some of Thule’s products and accessories.  More exciting opportunities await Thule’s sponsorship and collaboration with Shahrom Abdullah in the near future.
