Rupert Chen, Malaysia’s pride and joy hailing from Serdang, Selangor has been selected to feature his triathlon story in IRONMAN’s TV Series, Quest for Kona.
The IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, Hawaii requires triathletes to qualify through selected IRONMAN races around the world. Rated as the toughest IRONMAN triathlon in the world, triathletes the world over, train their hearts out to get themselves to the starting line in Kona.
Rupert, an engineer by profession is also IRONMAN Asia’s ambassador, ever animatic, charming and trains with a huge multi-cultural group around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor.
IRONMAN featured some questions for Rupert in his Quest for Kona as below.
1. If you could’ve guessed a reality TV show that you would have been cast for aside from Quest for Kona, what would it be, and why? “The Bachelor”! That is if I am selecting the girls and not the cat fighting girls vying for the Bachelor’s attention. Oh the Bachelor gets free rides in helicopters and fancy dinners and the undying attention of beautiful girls…heaven!
2. What do you anticipate will be the most challenging part of your training journey? The pressure to qualify in Kona itself would be the most challenging part… in order to increase my chances to qualify I have to increase my training volume and intensity and that might cause injuries and I am quite prone to injury when training gets too hardcore.
3. If you get to Kona, what will you do to celebrate? Unfortunately after IRONMAN 70.3 Qujing I will be racing at IRONMAN Gurye, Korea two weeks later so I can’t go too crazy on my celebration. I plan to throw the biggest triathlon themed party in Triple Mellow, a triathlon cafe in Kuala Lumpur and invite all the triathletes in Malaysia to come for a celebration dinner and watch my Quest For Kona video.
