IRONMAN announced that free registration is now available for the Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Division drawing for both the IRONMAN and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship events.

To honour the vision of IRONMAN co-founders John and Judy Collins, IRONMAN remains committed to providing athletes of all abilities a means to enter the world’s most challenging and prestigious one-day endurance event.

Through this initiative, five physically challenged athletes from around the world will be drawn to receive entry to the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship which takes place in Kailua-Kona, Hawai’i. In addition, a separate registration and drawing will be held for three physically challenged athletes to receive entry to the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship taking place in Chattanooga, Tennessee, USA.

Both the IRONMAN World Championship and IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship Physically Challenged Open/Exhibition Divisions will be available to athletes with a medically verified physical, visual, or neurological impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities.

Athletes who are drawn for the 2017 IRONMAN World Championship will need to validate their entry by completing a long-distance triathlon, of their choice, held between October 10, 2016, and August 27, 2017. Athletes who are drawn for the 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship will need to validate their entry by completing a long-distance triathlon, of their choice, held between September 1, 2016, and July 9, 2017. Free registration for both drawings will close on April 30, 2017, at 11:59 p.m. ET.
